Crushing Satan

by

The Scripture says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” This is what Satan was doing at the beginning of the book of Job.

Satan has been given a freedom to enslave the world as a part of God’s punishment on man’s sin. But God has taken action to deliver the world from Satan’s oppression. In Hebrews 2:14-15 we read that Christ “Himself likewise shared in [flesh and blood], that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

And this is all as God planned, for He proclaimed to Satan in the Garden of Eden, just after Adam and Eve’s defeat by the devil, “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel.”  1 John 3:8 says, “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.” On His cross Christ Jesus was trampling the head of Satan, and He continues to crush Satan’s head today. How is He doing that?

Listen to Romans 16:19-20 – “Be wise in what is good, and simple concerning evil. And the God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.” God is crushing Satan under our feet today as He continues His victorious campaign against the devil in the world. As we stand to praise God, Satan’s works are crushed. As we pray and confess and receive forgiveness and eat and drink and believe, the dominion of the devil suffers crushing defeats.

So go to war when you rise to your feet to sing and when you bow your head and when you hear from your captain, Christ Jesus. Go to war against unbelief and against sin and against the works of the devil.

Let us worship the Father through our victorious and reigning Savior, Christ Jesus our Captain in battle, in the mighty power of the Spirit.
