This blog has been rated PG? (UPDATE: David M. writes to tell us that we are now Rated R. Which makes this even more odd.)OK… this is a pretty static rating system, using a bank of words and nothing approaching an intelligent filtering system. But, what caught my eye was the reason for the rating. We are rated PG because we use the word “ABORTION.”
What strikes me as ironic is that the word ‘abortion’ leads to the warning “Some material may not be suitable for children,” while the procedure itself is available to a 12 year old possessing a note from the school nurse.
In the Minor Prophets there is this idea that when God judges a people moral confusion ensues. Injustice is called justice; righteousness is called wicked and the helpless are persecuted. The restoration of a people back into favor with God is pictured as a restoration of justice in the land. Consider Micah (Word of God in red)…
6Seek the LORD and live,
lest he break out like fire in the house of Joseph,
and it devour, with none to quench it for Bethel,
7O you who turn justice to wormwood
and cast down righteousness to the earth!
14Seek good, and not evil,
that you may live;
and so the LORD, the God of hosts, will be with you,
as you have said.
15Hate evil, and love good,
and establish justice in the gate;
it may be that the LORD, the God of hosts,
will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.
Micah says that he, Micah, is
3:8 …”filled with power,
with the Spirit of the LORD,
and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression
and to Israel his sin.”
Micah then goes on to describe the leaders of the people:
3:9Hear this, you heads of the house of Jacob
and rulers of the house of Israel,
who detest justice
and make crooked all that is straight,
10who build Zion with blood
and Jerusalem with iniquity.
11Its heads give judgment for a bribe;
its priests teach for a price;
its prophets practice divination for money;
yet they lean on the LORD and say,
“Is not the LORD in the midst of us?
No disaster shall come upon us.”
12Therefore because of you
Zion shall be plowed as a field;
Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins,
and the mountain of the house a wooded height.
Some might argue that the church and governments in the west are driven, to a significant degree, by the entertainment culture (hence the PG rating here). The culture says it is wrong to talk about abortion, except in the most glowing fashion, but the chopping up of little babies is the height of goodness and truth.
When such moral confusion reigns, do we NOT detest justice and make crooked all that is straight? Why should God NOT plow us like a field?
Now, it may be true that we are outraged by this moral bankrupcy, but let me say that it is far more common to hate injustice only when it is perpetrated against us. When injustice is in our favor we tend to like it… a lot.
Who shall deliver us from this body of death? Jesus Christ, the crucified and risen Savior, is the only hope for a crooked people to be made straight.
John 6:38-40 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day. 40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”
