Faith, Hope and Love

by

These three things abide, the Apostle Paul tells us.  The greatest of these is love he goes on to say and somewhere down the line some in the emerging church have decided that since love is the greatest then Faith and Hope should actually read Doubt and Misgiving.

Phil Johnson over at TeamPyro has posted and interacted with a few quotes from Brian McLaren’s book Everything Must Change and is really hot about this quote from McLaren: “Thinking along these lines, I became convinced that, yes, many of our world’s worst atrocities were indeed the result of overconfidence” (bold in Phil’s post).

You want to have doubts about your reading ability?  Fine.  The problem comes in when. instead of improving your reading skills, you wallow in your inability to correctly parse a sentence.

So, when God says, “Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward.  For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise…” then all manner of doubt creeps in.  Crazy emergents…
